Biography

I was born in 1988 in Vassouras, Rio de Janeiro. I’ve lived in Assomada (Cape Verde), São Mateus (Espirito Santo – Brazil), Vitoria (Espirito Santo – Brazil), Campinas (São Paulo – Brazil) and now, Trondheim (Norway).
I did my undergraduate course on Computer Engineering at the Federal University of Espirito Santo (CEUNES – UFES) from 2006 to 2011. During my undergraduate studies I’ve done a lot of cool things such as: two years of undergraduate research, two years as teacher assistant in Classical Mechanics and Data Structures disciplines, an undergraduate final project in Information Retrieval, a toy language and compiler (ZeL), a simple raytracer, etc. Since then I’ve been engaged with volunteering work related to students organizations, christian aid and promotion of justice and equality.
I started graduate school (M.Sc.) at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Campinas in the first semester of 2012 and finished it in 2014. My M.Sc. research was focused on designing efficient indexing methods for similarity search in metric spaces with applications in content-based multimedia retrieval. We proposed two methods based on metric partitioning of the data. Our results indicated that those methods behavior are similar to locality-sensitive methods in vector spaces.
From June of 2014 to August of 2015, I worked as a software analyst for the Brazilian government (at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE), in Rio de Janeiro, and continue my research work as a collaborator at Prof. Eduardo Valle team. In September of 2015 I started my PhD in the Group of Intelligent Systems, at the Department of Computer and Information Science, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology studying probabilistic modelling and scalable inference for Recommender Systems.
